This 2011 POWI Forum was based on a Discussion Paper, “The Oil Sands Environmental Footprint: Measuring Pollutants and Managing Their Impact” by David Schindler, Andrew Miall and Adele Hurley. The Discussion Paper provides background information on environmental monitoring of the oil sands, identifies the key issues that need to be monitored, and presents a regulatory checklist containing principles and key criteria for a world-class information and reporting system.
